Phil Murphy signed a law on Jan. 8 that bans cell phone use in public and charter schools for the 2026-27 school year to reduce cyberbullying (including restrictions during emergencies and school events) while boards develop detailed policies. - ➤ Rep. Gottheimer praised the House vote on Jan. 8 to extend ACA premium tax credits (which had expired and caused steep premium hikes) and urged the Senate to act quickly so Jersey families can regain affordable health care. WRNJ Radio

- ➤ The New Jersey Department of Health reported 12,211 flu cases for the week ending Dec. 27 compared to 5,796 last year, and over 10% of emergency visits were flu-related instead of 4.7%, as rising cases after holiday gatherings may lead residents to seek care quickly. Daily Record
