EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new lecture series on Revolutionary history launched on Jan. 21 at the Morris County Library with more than 100 attendees. The next talk, featuring local historian Janet W. Foster, will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 in-person and online with pre-registration required.  WRNJ Radio
  • NJ public elementary schools will require teaching cursive for grades 3 through 5 starting in September under a new state law signed by Gov. Phil Murphy, and districts will design staff training and adjust their curriculum (the law does not require mastery testing).  Daily Record

  • A recent snowstorm has stirred local debate since state law leaves sidewalk clearing times up to each municipality. In Morristown, residents must clear sidewalks within 12 hours after snowfall stops unless it ends later (exceptions apply), while nearby towns have different rules to help maintain safety.  Daily Record

  • Snow season is underway and residents are urged to clear sidewalks, but experts warn that shoveling can strain the heart for adults over 45 (especially those with heart conditions or risk factors).   • At the Morris County Swim Championships held yesterday in Morristown, the Chatham girls claimed their 17th title while Delbarton snapped a four-year streak with Max Ciechanowski leading two distance wins, marking the school’s first title since 2020.   • Chatham fencing excelled at the Morris County Tournament on Jan. 24, clinching a seventh straight boys overall title + a fifth consecutive win for the girls, as wins by Diya Badlani, Carlos Godoy and Sydney Leung added to their success at Randolph.  Daily Record
