  • The Morris County Chamber of Commerce appointed five new board members (Ashley Asdal, Kim Brennan, Casey Carpenter, Beth Johns, and Thomas J. Loughman) whose three-year terms began today to bring expertise in agriculture, real estate, communications, banking, and the arts.  WRNJ Radio

  • Axel Hellman of Rally+OurBus is selling $60 round-trip bus tickets this summer for World Cup fans headed to New York New Jersey Stadium, though local bus companies have dropped plans amid unclear drop-off rules at American Dream mall.  Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NJ State Board of Education passed a resolution to honor school librarians on April 8 during School Library Month, even as many schools face rising student-to-librarian ratios, from 911:1 in 2016-17 to 1,232:1 in 2023-24 due to budget cuts. Advocates urge legislators to support new funding for librarian positions.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Jersey will use $220,200 from federal rail safety grants to launch a See Tracks? Think Train® campaign in September. Moving billboards on delivery trucks will warn drivers and pedestrians to be safe around tracks.  WRNJ Radio
  • Law enforcement officials in the county collected 273 pounds of expired medications today at three drop-off sites (ShopRite in Cedar Knolls, Uncle Giuseppe’s in Morris Plains, ACME in Randolph) as part of the first National Prescription Drug Take Back Day of 2026 to help prevent drug misuse.  WRNJ Radio
  • The Sherrill administration announced $28 million in state grants to improve freight routes in Morris and Sussex counties. Dover will receive $530k, Wharton $750k, and Franklin Borough $1.44 million (from the FY26 Local Freight Impact Fund) to boost truck safety and roadway mobility.  WRNJ Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The new Melchiorre Cancer Center at Cooperman Barnabas in Livingston will fully open in mid-June, offering outpatient cancer treatment with radiation, chemotherapy and imaging in a 137,000 sqft facility. It is part of RWJBarnabas Health’s plan to bring cancer care closer to home.  Daily Record

  • Delbarton is the top seed as the Morris County boys lacrosse tournament rolls out; first-round games are due by May 2, then rounds on May 5, May 7 and May 9 are set, with the final on May 12 at Drew University.  Daily Record
