COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Since 1974, Heath Village has observed Arbor Day by planting nearly 60 trees on its campus — this year, Friendship Center students joined residents in planting a Hardy Rubber Tree under clear skies — and reinforced a longstanding community tradition.  WRNJ Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • The New Jersey Wine & Food Festival will be at Crystal Springs Resort from May 2 to May 4 and will offer chef dinners, wine tastings, and artisan food events — Francis Mallmann will lead live-fire cooking with a six-course dinner on May 2 and a lunch meet-and-greet on May 3.  Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Morris County’s Shade Tree Division opened a tree nursery in a county-owned field in Parsippany-Troy Hills where more than 200 oak, maple and dogwood saplings will be grown to replace ash trees damaged by pests and support community forestry. The division will plant at least 50 trees each year to keep costs low and restore native vegetation.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Transportation Security Administration will not accept state-issued IDs without Real ID compliance from May 7th — New Jersey travelers must use a Real ID, passport, federal government PIV card or U.S. military ID to avoid delays at airport security. The Motor Vehicle Commission is processing many appointments and urges residents to review the required documents online.  Daily Record
  • The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development launched the state’s first Registered Apprenticeship program for infant and toddler care, developed with the Department of Human Services — funded by the federal Preschool Development Grant Birth Through Five. The program is part of nearly $100M in state investments aimed at expanding apprenticeship opportunities for a wider range of occupations.  WRNJ Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • NJ hospitals received high safety grades in a Leapfrog Group report released today, with about half of the more than 60 hospitals earning an A and 12 receiving a C—Morristown Medical Center earned an A among them—as hospitals continue to invest in safety improvements after the COVID-19 challenges.  Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delbarton defended its title at the Morris County Tournament on April 30 at Flanders Valley by beating Mendham by two strokes with a team score of 309; senior Jake Kurtzman led with a 75. Grady Gore injured his hand on the first hole when he hit a thorn bush but stayed to help his team—adding momentum as they prepare for sectionals next week.  Daily Record
