  • Seven Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark will host Memorial Day Masses on May 26 starting at 11 a.m.—most ceremonies will be held outdoors with seating provided while Gate of Heaven and Maryrest hold indoor services, and Cardinal Tobin will officiate at Holy Cross Cemetery in honor of the men and women who died in service.  Daily Record

  • Today the vote opens for North Jersey Student of the Week as school administrators from Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties have nominated standout students—voting will close at 5 p.m. Thursday—and top candidates will be announced around noon Friday.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NJ Transit ended its three-day strike and trains are set to run today for commuters. Union leaders reached a deal that boosts engineers' wages (with a contract vote scheduled next).  Daily Record
  • NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen ended a three-day strike on Sunday that halted rail service, and Gov. Phil Murphy said wage increases for engineers will come without raising fares—train service is expected to resume Tuesday after safety inspections and equipment placement.  Daily Record

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • North Jersey restaurants offer a range of fresh BBQ sides for Memorial Day on May 26, giving party hosts better options than traditional burgers and hot dogs.
