  • Congressman Josh Gottheimer honored North Jersey Scouts at the annual Fifth District Scout Honor Ceremony held this past weekend. CRIME NEWS

  • Mount Olive police arrested a Budd Lake man (30-year-old Thomas C. Bright) on May 18 for resisting arrest when he refused to comply with officers attempting to serve an active no-bail warrant from the Morristown Police Department.  WRNJ Radio

  • A New Jersey lottery player from Morris County won a $585,900 Jersey Cash 5 jackpot on May 18th via a ticket purchased through Jackpocket.com — marking the game’s 25th win this year and awarding the retailer a $2,000 bonus.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morris County Surrogate Heather J. Darling announced a new partnership with the Morris County Veterans Services Office to help families of deceased veterans access benefits—this effort will provide help with burial flags, memorial certificates and funeral expense reimbursements in coordination with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.  WRNJ Radio
  • Today, the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee passed bill S-664, which will boost cancer research funding by raising annual state cigarette and tobacco tax revenues from $1 million to $10 million and establishing a dedicated fund in the Department of the Treasury. The funding will be split equally between general and pediatric research — aimed at reducing racial and ethnic disparities and expanding access to clinical trials in underserved communities.  WRNJ Radio
  • NJ Transit rail crews began inspecting trains and tracks today as a tentative deal to raise engineers' wages and modify work rules awaits a vote from roughly 450 members before the June 11 board meeting—negotiators reached the agreement after a key call from the new national union president on May 16 that ended the strike threat.  Daily Record
  • An article explains NJ noise laws that limit when and how loud yardwork can be done and shows different towns have their own rules.
