  • Over one million New Jersey residents plan to travel for Memorial Day weekend from May 21 to May 25 as rising gas prices force careful planning — over 956,000 drivers are set to hit the road, while air travel sees a slight decline.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Stop & Shop will lower prices on thousands of items at 46 New Jersey stores in late May to help shoppers when inflation pushed grocery costs up 5.9% in the past year. The discounts will include 9% off kaiser rolls, 10% off orange juice, and up to 28% off beef products.  Daily Record

  • The EPA announced $33.6 million to help New Jersey communities test for PFAS and upgrade drinking water systems. The funds come from a national program addressing emerging contaminants in drinking water.  WRNJ Radio
  • The New Jersey General Assembly advanced two bills designed to improve mental health support for children and ban harmful social media practices that could trigger eating disorders. The legislation, led by Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and Assemblyman Michael Venezia, will help hospitals share local care resources and hold platforms accountable.  WRNJ Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the Morris County Track & Field Championships, Kayla Ewing won the 400-meter hurdles on May 19 while West Morris runners broke records in sprints and jumps; the meet continues today at Boonton High School with additional events scheduled.  Daily Record
  • Four soccer teams will train at local sites in New Jersey for FIFA World Cup 2026—Brazil at Columbia Park in Morris Township, Haiti at Stockton University, Morocco at The Pingry School and Senegal at Rutgers University—to boost tourism as the region prepares to host eight matches including the final.  WRNJ Radio
  • Morris Knolls girls golf team won its NWJAC title on May 19 at Farmstead Golf and Country Club (Andover Township) with senior Kendyl Croft, junior Olivia Gaglione, and Brielle Malone medaling in the tournament.
