CULTURE NEWS

  • Across North Jersey, free Juneteenth events will celebrate Black culture with local festivals, music, and community walks in towns like Fair Lawn, Hackensack, Teaneck, Newark, and Morristown. Organizers planned events from today through later in the week — each offering a chance to honor history and freedom.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Long Valley First Aid Squad in Washington Township is launching a local EMT training center that will start classes in January 2026 — pending state approval. The new program is meant to boost volunteer numbers and help keep emergency care timely for residents.  WRNJ Radio
  • New Jersey law prohibits drivers from using handheld cellphones even when stopped at red lights and sets fines of $200 for a first offense, $400 for a second, and $600 plus a possible license suspension for a third offense. Drivers may use hands-free technology and can use their phone in emergencies (for example, to report accidents or hazards) if they keep one hand on the wheel.  Daily Record
  • Today, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced new guidance to boost coordination between law enforcement and community violence intervention programs at a state symposium — he also unveiled a public data tool that maps gun violence to help local partners use best practices developed by a multidisciplinary working group. The report is part of a broader strategy to further reduce shootings through improved local partnerships.  WRNJ Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross urges Morristown residents to schedule blood and platelet donations as the Atlantic hurricane season is underway—local drives may be halted by severe weather that could lead to shortages. Donors giving between June 1 and June 30 will receive a $15 Amazon gift card and a chance to win one of two $7,000 prizes—appointments can be made via the Red Cross app or website and donors must meet eligibility requirements.  WRNJ Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, three lacrosse teams from Morris and Sussex will compete for state titles—Mountain Lakes girls and boys and Sparta. Mountain Lakes girls will play Rumson-Fair Haven at 4:30 p.m. at Ridge High School, the boys will face Glen Ridge at 7 p.m.—while Sparta will square off with Allentown at 7 p.m. at Seneca.  Daily Record
