  • Experts from AAA Northeast and Foot and Ankle Wellness Center report that while it is legal in New Jersey to drive in flip-flops, sandals or barefoot, drivers may lose pedal control—experts recommend switching to secure, closed shoes before heading to the Jersey Shore amid the recent heat wave.  Daily Record

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tractor-trailer hauling 38 cows overturned early Thursday morning at 2:39 a.m. on I-80 East in Morris County—at milepost 23.6 in Mount Olive Township—resulting in the driver being hospitalized with minor injuries while authorities safely rescued all the animals.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Due to extreme heat, NJ Transit experienced rail delays as air conditioning in trains failed (causing safety alerts and slower speeds) and trains did not depart when systems were not working. CEO Kris Kolluri said the agency will modernize its equipment by 2031 (aiming to prevent these issues).  News 12 New Jersey
  • On June 12th, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office was re-accredited by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police for the fourth cycle after a review of its practices from 2022 to 2024. Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally led off-site audits and on-site inspections — confirming the office met all 112 professional standards.  WRNJ Radio
  • The New Jersey Reparations Council released a report on Juneteenth that lists about 100 recommendations to help Black residents affected by slavery—including direct payments and policy changes—and urges lawmakers to pass a pending bill to form a state reparations task force. Local leaders say the detailed plan aims to reduce disparities and improve public services.  Daily Record
  • Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Samantha DeNegri, and Sgt. Patrick LaGuerre were honored with the 2025 Community Service Award by the Morris County Human Relations Commission for their leadership in promoting human rights and cultural diversity. The award was presented on June 18 at The Famished Frog in Morristown—recognizing strong local partnerships that help build an inclusive community.  WRNJ Radio
  • This week, the House passed three Gottheimer-led amendments to strengthen support for veterans by requiring resident advocates in every veterans home, boosting funding for suicide prevention, and ensuring kosher meals at VA hospitals. Gottheimer said the changes aim to help prevent tragedies like the COVID outbreak in veterans homes in Paramus and Menlo Park and to give veterans the care and respect they deserve.  WRNJ Radio
  • The Morris County Board of County Commissioners is set to vote on $2.6 million in grants from the Preservation Trust Fund to restore 24 historic sites in 15 towns. They will review and act on the funding recommendations at a public meeting on July 9 — most of the funds will support construction work on 13 of the projects.  WRNJ Radio
