  • Applebee’s restaurants, including Doherty-owned New Jersey locations, have launched their annual fundraiser to support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in funding pediatric cancer research and family programs—transforming their spaces into Lemonade Stands with donation options via paper lemon tags, special online menu items and featured drinks—as the campaign runs until August 31.  WRNJ Radio

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 33-year-old man died after being pulled unresponsive from Cedar Lake Beach on July 13 when emergency crews arrived at 5:50 p.m. + authorities stated no foul play is suspected as the case remains under investigation.  WRNJ Radio

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Italian food giant Ferrero Group, based in Parsippany, announced on July 10th it will buy WK Kellogg Co. and its iconic cereals, including Corn Flakes, Froot Loops, and Rice Krispies — the $3.1B deal is expected to close in the second half while WK Kellogg maintains its Battle Creek operations as the North America cereal headquarters.  Daily Record

CRIME NEWS

  • A Morris County man was arrested on July 12 in Denville Township when police stopped his vehicle for a seat belt violation—he gave a false name, drug paraphernalia was found and he had outstanding warrants.  WRNJ Radio

EDUCATION NEWS

  • New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin joined 24 states in filing a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Education for freezing billions in education funding, including $158 million for New Jersey. The lawsuit claims the funding freeze violates federal laws and has already disrupted summer programs — officials say it threatens teacher training and special education services — leaving local districts to plan amid uncertainty.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new report shows that New Jersey and New York prisons have lost about one in five correctional workers since 2020, with New York shedding 1,400 full-time jobs amid pay cuts that began in the late 2010s—Connecticut improved its numbers. The staffing decline raises safety concerns for both prisoners and guards.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Governor Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency for all 21 counties on Monday, July 14 due to flash flooding, severe thunderstorms, intense rainfall, and damaging wind gusts. He urged residents to follow safety protocols + check local forecasts for updates.  WRNJ Radio
  • U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer reunited the family of late World War I veteran Savos Loukides with his military honors and an American flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol on Monday—his son and daughter-in-law in Montvale received the medals, which include a Purple Heart, a Victory Medal, and a Victory Button, as recognition of his service.  WRNJ Radio
