The New Jersey Department of Education awarded nearly $3.75M in early literacy grants to northern New Jersey school districts to boost reading skills for K-3 students using two programs—FOCUS at $2.3M and BRIDGE at $1.4M—and the grants will run through May 31.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J.
Platkin joined 20 states in a federal lawsuit to stop the end of FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program — which funds projects to protect homes and critical sites from natural disasters. On July 16, the state Supreme Court ruled that hospitals must offer charity care to patients who cannot pay, saying free treatment is not an unconstitutional taking of private property—hospitals can still try to change the rules through legal channels.
The ruling means patients in Morristown and the state will not be billed for care if they qualify.
New Jersey Craft Beer Week is underway from July 13 to 20 to boost local craft brewers—over 150 independent breweries are hosting taproom events, special releases and closeout parties on July 19 and 20 to showcase their new beers, with local spots like Morristown’s Glenbrook Brewing among those participating. This event aims to raise awareness of the state’s growing craft beer scene and encourage local drinkers to discover their unique flavors.
The Devils will host the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers on Oct.
16 at the Prudential Center for their first home game of the 2025-26 season. They outscored the Panthers in three games last season and teased fans on social media — setting high hopes for the season.
