ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The USGS recorded 24 earthquakes in New Jersey in 2025, including a magnitude 2.7 near Hillsdale and a quake in Bergen County that is likely an aftershock of Saturday's 3.0 near Hasbrouck Heights. A seismologist said more aftershocks will hit over the next week or two — and the hard old bedrock makes the seismic waves travel farther — drawing close attention to the region.  News 12 New Jersey

  • An audit of over 500 New Jersey departments found that automated license plate readers had only two training violations and aided police in tracking crimes—state Attorney General Matthew Platkin warned that a planned $1 million federal cut could slow plans to add new devices.
