  • New Jersey has launched a statewide tracking system that gives sexual assault survivors real-time results for their rape kits—this follows a three-year investigation and an attorney general directive that all authorized tests be conducted while a backlog of more than 5,000 kits is cleared by the end of the year.  News 12 New Jersey

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Morristown Festival of Books will hold its 12th annual event in October with a keynote by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Atkinson—tickets cost $68 and include a signed copy of his book. The festival will feature free Saturday events at venues such as the Vail Mansion with over 100 authors confirmed, including returning CNN journalist Jake Tapper and special KidsFest activities for young readers.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 5, 2025, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development added nine businesses—including two from Morris County—to its Workplace Accountability in Labor List for owing $287,067.96 in unpaid contributions, penalties, and interest. The rule bars these firms from public contracts until they fully settle their debts.  WRNJ Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Multiple consumer products—smartwatches, children’s pajamas, hair serum, jewelry, heated socks and pet toys—have been recalled for burn, poisoning and choking hazards, and customers should stop using them and follow instructions for refunds or replacements.  WRNJ Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Jackson Holbrook Little League lost 3—0 in extra innings during a rematch with Connecticut in a regional semifinal in New Jersey on August 7. Connecticut won the pitchers’ duel with a final strikeout and will face New York in the finals.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe hosted a baseball camp at Delbarton on August 7 for over 350 young players, where he taught hitting and fielding and encouraged them to work hard and have fun.  Daily Record
