FINANCE NEWS

  • S&P Global Ratings upgraded New Jersey’s credit rating from A to A+ today, praising Gov. Murphy’s work to build a surplus and cut long-term debt — his state earned its eighth upgrade under his term — as a sign of strong fiscal progress.  WRNJ Radio
  • Auto insurance rates in New Jersey rose 17.2% based on a recent ValuePenguin report using Bureau of Labor Statistics data—rising costs come from insurance company losses driven by inflation, litigation and legislative mandates while modern repair parts add to expenses.  News 12 New Jersey

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting August 13, the state will send confirmation letters with details about the Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters—tax benefits to eligible residents who own or rent their main home. The letters explain benefit amounts and filing instructions, and residents must file by Oct. 31.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Acting Gov. Tahesha Way signed two bills on Monday that aim to protect people seeking addiction treatment by reclassifying patient brokering and forcing accurate advertising practices. The bills impose $50,000 fines and up to $20,000 civil penalties to hold both for-profit and nonprofit providers accountable—ensuring care is based on clinical need.  WRNJ Radio
  • On Sunday, Sept. 7, the Morris County Board of County Commissioners will host the 24th Annual Morris County 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at 6 p.m. at the 9/11 Memorial on West Hanover Ave— the program will feature keynote speaker Rudy Sanfilippo, a former NYC firefighter who responded during the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and a procession of police, fire and EMS personnel.  WRNJ Radio
  • Assemblywoman Aura Dunn said a double murder-suicide in Franklin Township showed that law enforcement did not act on repeated domestic violence warnings—she noted that current law does not cover psychological abuse. Dunn is now proposing a bill to add psychological and economic abuse to the legal definition—an effort she says is needed to help prevent similar tragedies.  WRNJ Radio

  • FIFA is accepting nearly 65,000 volunteers to work at places like stadiums, training sites, airports and hotels+ some volunteers will serve at both official and non-official venues during the upcoming World Cup in New Jersey. The final matches will be held on July 19, 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford+ FIFA has shared details on how to apply.  News 12 New Jersey
