COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Project Self-Sufficiency is holding its first Polo Classic on Sept. 13 at Grayfields Polo Club in Allamuchy Township to raise funds for low-income families in Northwest New Jersey. The event starts at noon—VIP guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres, live music from local groups, and support from Mercedes-Benz of Newton.  WRNJ Radio
  • On Monday, over 100 veterans gathered at Watnong VFW Post 3401 to be honored at the Second Annual Veteran Appreciation Day - local leaders including County Commissioners Thomas Mastrangelo and Christine Myers, Sheriff James Gannon, and Rep. Mikie Sherrill showed their support for those who served. The event also showcased the Veterans Compendium and announced upcoming support services at the County College of Morris starting in September.  WRNJ Radio

  • Yelp named Second Street Bakery in Jersey City at number 28 and Morristown's Saigon Subs and Cafe at number 31 on its Top 100 Sandwich Shops list for National Sandwich Month — the only two local shops to be honored based on Yelp scores and reviews.  Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon swore in seven Correctional Police Officers at the county Correctional Facility this week—six had recently graduated from Hudson County Police Academy on Aug. 12 and Rosalba Garcia transferred from NJ Department of Corrections—while Bart Yarosz earned Defensive Tactics and Most Outstanding awards.  WRNJ Radio
  • A WalletHub study published on Aug. 18 found that New Jersey ranked 43rd overall in women's equality for 2025 — with rankings of 46th in workplace, 41st in education and health, and 22nd in political empowerment — showing that the Garden State lags behind other states.  Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Officials reported that a Morris County resident contracted malaria on August 19 — if confirmed it would be New Jersey's first locally acquired case since 1991. State health officials are working with the CDC to trace the source and urge residents to remove standing water.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Officials at the New Jersey Department of Health are reviewing a possible malaria case in Morris County reported on August 19—since the patient did not travel, it could be the first local case in about 35 years.  News 12 New Jersey
  • Congress is proposing changes to Medicaid and SNAP that will force many New Jersey families to lose needed services because they cannot manage the strict paperwork—this puts people with autism and Down syndrome at extra risk. Spectrum Care Management & Counseling warns that without special help, these families may struggle to get vital support.  Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Golfers and pickleball players are invited to join the CCM Foundation’s 2025 President’s Classic at Spring Brook Country Club in Morristown on Monday, Oct. 6. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with a barbecue lunch before a noon shotgun start and a new pickleball option that offers a lesson from a club pro — proceeds will support student success programs and community partnerships.  WRNJ Radio
