  • All Fur One Pet Rescue & Adoption welcomed Bronco on August 22nd as a friendly pup looking for a new home. The rescue is also raising funds to help Sudsy get surgery for his calcified ears — an effort that will continue until enough donations are received.  News 12 New Jersey

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Morris County officials announced crews will spray for mosquitoes early Monday morning on Aug. 25 to address a rise in adult mosquito numbers. The treatment will occur from 4 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. at Morristown’s Martin Luther King Avenue near Pocahontas Lake and Morris Plains’ Jim Fear Drive near Community Park Pool using either Anvil 2+2, which has Sumithrin, or Zenivex E4, which has Etofenprox.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Jersey has opened the ANCHOR filing season for property tax relief based on 2024 residency, income, and age—letters were mailed on Aug. 13 to most eligible residents under 65 who do not have to file unless updating banking information or requesting a paper check, and all applications must be submitted by Oct. 31. Residents who did not receive a letter along with seniors or those collecting Social Security disability benefits can apply using the combined PAS-1 form to claim additional benefits.  Daily Record
  • A new law that creates a state school counselor liaison and sets standards for counselor training was signed Thursday to boost mental health services as schools work to overcome challenges from past closures — Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis said counselors must now complete a master’s degree with specialized coursework to better address issues like depression and anxiety. This legislation aims to strengthen support for students in New Jersey schools.  WRNJ Radio
  • Gov-Phil Murphy signed two new bills in Trenton on August 22 to ease rising electricity bills after customers faced a 20-percent price hike in June. The bills will expand solar power access to one million homes over three years and create clean energy jobs.  News 12 New Jersey
