  • Earlier this week, U.S. Rep.   • New Jersey signed a law to create a new Department of Veterans Affairs—meant to care for veterans’ health and housing following over 200 COVID deaths at state-run nursing homes—and split off military duties to improve service. Gov. Murphy will nominate Army veteran Vincent Solomeno—expected to lead the new department—when the law takes effect in 120 days.  Daily Record

Phil Murphy signed a bill that legalizes natural burials by allowing human remains to decompose naturally into nutrient-rich soil using a controlled process with organic materials such as wood chips, straw and alfalfa — the law directs the State Board of Mortuary Science to register and inspect natural organic reduction facilities under licensed supervision.  Daily Record
  • New Jersey police warn residents that as e-bikes become more popular and recent incidents draw attention, state laws now classify these bikes into two types—pedal assist and throttle—with a top speed of 20 mph and require riders under 17 to wear helmets.  Daily Record
