  • Officers responded to a welfare check on Sept. 20 in Washington Township and found a man pedaling a stationary bike along the roadside outside Schooley’s Mountain General Store.   • Fathers in Sussex County are invited to join free parenting workshops hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency from Oct. 7 to Nov. 13 where the 24:7 Dads program will guide them in strengthening parenting skills—pizza and childcare will be provided for onsite classes.  WRNJ Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • Two local cake decorators are set to compete on Food Network’s Halloween Wars—Tenisha Bennington from Passaic, a makeup and cake artist with 1.5 million followers, and Kim M. Simons, who taught art in Leonia and Fort Lee and has appeared on past Food Network shows. The show debuted on September 21 and will air Sunday nights at 9 p.m.—teams battle for a $50,000 prize.  Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The NJ Education Dept. report Growing up online recommends a bell—to—bell ban on cellphones in schools to cut risks like cyberbullying and sleep disruption, and it urges districts to enforce strict rules while the proposed bill S3695 waits for further action in the Assembly. Governor Murphy and several schools have already backed the measure as the report calls for stronger social media privacy laws for minors.  Daily Record
  • County College of Morris in Randolph Township is enrolling students for its accelerated Fall session, a seven week program starting Oct. 23—nearly 100 courses offered online give a fast path to transferable credits—and students can register on Nov. 3 for Winterim courses beginning Dec. 22.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lyft will pay the state Labor Department $19.4M to settle claims after an audit found that more than 100,000 drivers were misclassified as freelancers—$10.8M covers unpaid taxes and benefits while $8.5M accounts for penalties and interest.  Daily Record
  • The Morris County Park Commission announced Monday it is partnering with Morristown-based podcast Beyond The Green—produced by Sleeping Bear Productions—to share stories about the county’s parks and history.   • New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin joined a coalition of 23 attorneys general and seven local governments on Monday to oppose the EPA's plan to scrap its 2009 Endangerment Finding by filing a 225-page letter that argued the move would violate legal precedent and threaten public health—adding that repealing vehicle emissions standards could undo decades of progress.  WRNJ Radio
