- ➤ New Jersey ranked fourth among states where mortgage rates dropped the least, according to WalletHub’s study—WalletHub compared user data and found the state's rate declined by 8.86% in Q2, offering local homeowners less relief than in other states. WRNJ Radio
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ County College of Morris will host its 13th Legacy Project series this fall, starting on October 1 with a Zoom lecture on wildlife disease, continuing with an on-campus talk on November 13, and ending on December 4—a free series that requires an RSVP by email. WRNJ Radio
- ➤ After fifth-grade teacher Elizabeth Clark resigned on Sept. 17 following a controversial comment about Charlie Kirk that went viral, the Rockaway Township district sent a letter to staff reminding them of social media guidelines that bar posts damaging to the school’s reputation. Clark said her personal details were shared online rapidly + she resigned out of fear for her own safety and that of her students. Daily Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ USA TODAY published a map that shows 46 water systems in North Jersey have PFAS levels above the EPA limit and nine systems recorded levels more than three times the limit—raising concerns for local residents. The EPA requires these systems to monitor PFAS, and residents may consider filters like granular activated carbon or reverse osmosis to lower exposure. Daily Record
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin joined a group of 20 state attorneys general on Monday to raise concerns about the FDA review of mifepristone. Platkin said the review was prompted by a letter—one that called for limits on the drug—and he vowed that New Jersey will protect access to reproductive care. WRNJ Radio
- ➤ NJ Transit will seek to recoup over $10K from two union leaders, Thomas Haas Jr. and Donald Melhorn, for being paid during union business on company time, according to a letter sent on Sept. 29. - ➤ The American Red Cross is asking Morristown residents to donate blood or platelets this fall to support the nation’s blood supply—donors between Sept. 22 and Oct. 19 will receive a $10 Amazon gift card. WRNJ Radio

- ➤ The girls soccer Morris County Tournament bracket was set on Sept.29, with Morris Knolls taking the top seed and eight teams, including Randolph and Chatham, earning byes. The first round must be played by Oct.4 and the final will be held at Roxbury at 5 p.m. Oct.25 — all games are hosted by the better seed. Daily Record
- ➤ Delbarton, the three-time defending champion, received the top seed at the Morris County boys soccer tournament meeting on Sept. 29. Madison, Randolph, Chatham, Montville and Morris Hills got byes — first-round games will be played by Oct. 4, quarterfinals on Oct. 14, semifinals on Oct. 19 at Mount Olive and the final at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at Roxbury. - ➤ After a wild week in high school football, three new teams were added to the New Jersey Super 25 and Don Bosco moved into the top spot with a 14—9 win over Bergen Catholic.
