COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents of Heath Village invite local community members to join the final walking tour of the year on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. The guided one-mile walk across 150 acres features rest stops, scenic views, and a free outdoor meal with a rain date set for Oct. 23 (RSVP required due to limited space).  WRNJ Radio

CULTURE NEWS

  • More than 10 spooky attractions will open across North Jersey this fall, offering haunted houses, ghost tours, hayrides, and escape room experiences for both families and thrill-seekers. Visitors can enjoy immersive guided tours and historically themed events running on select evenings until late October—ensuring a variety of chilling experiences.  Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The NJDEP Fish & Wildlife will begin its annual fall trout stocking program on October 14, releasing about 20,000 two-year-old rainbow trout into state waterways over two weeks as up to 1,000 three-year-old broodstock trout are included while sites with low water flow are excluded to protect fish health; all stocked waters will be open to fishing immediately.  WRNJ Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New Jersey residents can apply for property tax relief through the state’s ANCHOR program until Oct. 31 and will likely receive up to $1,750 within 90 days of applying—eligible applicants include homeowners and renters who meet income, residency, and tax requirements. Applicants filing online can request direct deposit while paper filers will receive checks.  Daily Record
  • The Morris County Board of County Commissioners declared October to be National Disability Employment Awareness Month during a meeting in Morristown—marking the 80th anniversary of the observance and 52nd anniversary of the Rehabilitation Act. They also presented a proclamation to the Workforce Development Board, which will receive the 2025 Innovation Award on Oct. 23 for its role in connecting local jobseekers and employers.  WRNJ Radio
  • Today, Morris County installed new hearing loop systems in public spots such as the OTA office in Morris Township, a conference room in Parsippany-Troy Hills, and a meeting room at the County Library + staff now use portable listening devices during outreach. The upgrades, funded by a New Jersey grant, will help residents with hearing loss get clearer sound during public meetings + allow easier access to county services.  WRNJ Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In September, active real estate listings in New Jersey increased from last month while median listing prices dropped nearly 4% from last year, showing a shift in the local housing market. Sellers reduced prices on about 31% more properties and homes stayed on the market for an average of 43 days—signs that inventory growth continued amid a slower sales pace.  Daily Record
