- ➤ Marc Erminal’s The Vibe barbershop burned down Tuesday night, and he plans to rebuild a safer, larger shop that will create local job opportunities — officials are investigating the fire that displaced over 30 people and damaged several businesses. News 12 New Jersey
- ➤ Over 2,000 New Jersey security officers are set to vote on a strike as the 32BJ union pushes for higher wages and more training—members currently earn $17 per hour and the union asks for an annual raise plus better training and legal support. - ➤ County College of Morris held a dedication ceremony for its new 80,000-square-foot Center for Health Professions in Randolph Township on Wednesday — local and state officials joined college officials and community members to mark the milestone. - ➤ A Morris County company, Suburban Propane Partners, joined forces with the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey and the Women in Trucking Association to host 'Trucks are for Girls: Fueling the Future' at its Whippany headquarters—where Girl Scouts took part in hands-on STEM activities. The event offered a behind-the-scenes tour, a truck ride, and a simulator exercise—supporting its SuburbanCares program for youth empowerment. WRNJ Radio
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ New Jersey’s fall bear hunt began Oct. 13 and is ongoing today using archery with muzzleloaders allowed from Oct. 16—so far, 249 bears have been harvested statewide. - ➤ New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced on Thursday that the state joined 22 other plaintiffs in suing the EPA for ending the Solar for All program—designed to help low-income families access solar energy. The lawsuit alleges that the agency unlawfully cancelled already awarded funds under the Inflation Reduction Act and seeks to restore the program along with damages. WRNJ Radio
- ➤ New Jersey officials said SNAP and WIC benefits remain available until October 31 and November 10—serving over 800,000 residents and 165,000 families while warning that federal funding delays may disrupt payments in November.
