  • The Community Foodbank of New Jersey is moving into disaster mode as it prepares for a surge in pantry visits if SNAP benefits expire on Nov. 1—phone calls and donations have increased amid worries of food shortages. The foodbank, which serves 800 pantries statewide, is planning a mass food distribution to help nearly 800,000 people who depend on these benefits.  News 12 New Jersey

  • Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto is opening a new restaurant at Vail Mansion in Morristown—Montclair Hospitality Group is transforming the 1917 building into six themed areas that will feature steak and mixology programs while town officials plan to announce opening dates soon.  Daily Record
  • QuickChek will start its holiday promotions in November with Buy 4, Get 1 Free coffee deals and seasonal coffee flavors before launching its 24 Days of Deals on December 1, which features new items like the Smashed Meatball Sub and returning Chicken Mozzarella Sub—each deal also adds rewards for QC Rewards members.  WRNJ Radio

  • North Jersey will mark Día de los Muertos from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2, and in Morristown the Morris Museum will screen Coco on November 1 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. while a local bar crawl begins at 4 p.m.—offering residents a festive way to honor the holiday.  Daily Record

  • Local officials said that during fall deer mating season, NJDOT crews remove carcasses from state highways while Morris County and local teams handle removals on county roads—motorists are advised to report dead deer and drive with extra care as collisions increase.  Daily Record

  • Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman introduced a bipartisan bill today in Lebanon Borough that directs the National Park Service to study the Upper Raritan River and its tributaries for a potential Wild and Scenic designation. The study will assess the river’s natural, cultural and recreational value — a step that could lead to a community-led management plan — to protect local water and recreation.  WRNJ Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Morristown Medical Center was named the No. 1 hospital in New Jersey on Newsweek’s 2026 Best-in-State Hospitals list—ranking it ahead of over 6,000 hospitals based on quality, reputation, patient experience and outcome measures. Atlantic Health System praised the doctors, nurses and staff for their exceptional care.  WRNJ Radio

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • New Jersey has six ZIP codes among the top 100 most expensive in the country. Alpine's 07620 tied for 13th with a median price of $4.3 million—matching Beverly Hills—and Deal ranked 22nd at $3.5 million while Stone Harbor, Short Hills, Avalon and Allenhurst rounded out the list at 57th, 69th, 75th and 93rd respectively.  News 12 New Jersey

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mountain Lakes resident Natalie Grabow, 80, became the oldest woman to finish the Ironman World Championships in Kona on Oct. 11 by completing the race in 16 hours, 45 minutes and 26 seconds. She tripped near the finish on a carpeted ramp but quickly got up + proved that hard work and persistence pay off.  Daily Record
