GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Changes to SNAP eligibility and the end of Local Food for Schools funding may cause tens of thousands of kids to lose automatic access to free school meals next school year—districts are already preparing for increased paperwork. State officials have secured temporary replacement funds, but some schools may lose the Community Eligibility Provision, putting more students at risk of missing meals. Daily Record
- ➤ Morris County recommended nearly $7 million from its Open Space Trust Fund to buy and preserve almost 200 acres—including a 17-acre site in Denville that once housed a senior living facility, along with parcels in Mendham and Rockaway for expanded open space. The county board will vote on the proposals on Dec. 3—while Denville officials continue negotiations with Springpoint over a potential sale. Daily Record
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Optum, a UnitedHealthcare subsidiary, is closing several offices and laying off 572 employees in New Jersey+ the shutdowns are set to finish by Dec. 1 or Dec. 5 and have left thousands of patients, including many parents, scrambling for new primary and pediatric care. Daily Record
- ➤ Zufall Health was chosen to receive a five-year grant from the Merck Foundation to build its Center for Justice in Cardiovascular Health in northern and central New Jersey—aimed at giving low-income patients better heart care. The center will work with community partners to guide patients in managing their conditions and reducing emergency room visits. WRNJ Radio
