  • Morris County will kick off America’s 250th anniversary on Dec. 31 with First Night Morris in Morristown, featuring over 80 performances across 20 venues and expanded historical exhibits at Macculloch Hall and the Woman’s Club — free parking, shuttle service and a midnight countdown with fireworks complete the celebration.  WRNJ Radio

  • Between Dec. 1 and Dec. 7, NJ Lottery players won 20 prizes of $10K or more from draw games and scratch-offs, including major wins of $90M+ and $1M from Mega Millions and other games across retailers, with local wins at Midtown Liquors in Morristown.  WRNJ Radio

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Jersey’s black bear hunt Segment B opens today, allowing hunters to use shotguns and muzzleloaders under strict rules until Dec. 13. State officials will adjust the season’s length if harvests reach 30% or remain below 20% — changes that will be announced on the Fish and Wildlife website.  WRNJ Radio

  • A bill to ban PFAS from cosmetics, carpet treatments, and food packaging passed the state Senate’s Budget and Appropriations Committee on Dec. 8 and will take effect two years after enactment.   • Heath Village Retirement Community in Washington Township earned a 'High Performing' rating in long-term care and rehab from U.S. News & World Report, placing it among just 19% of skilled nursing facilities nationwide.   • Flu cases have risen in New Jersey with over 100 patients admitted in one week, and some hospitals now require masks ahead of holiday travel. Experts warn that a new flu variant may lower vaccine match, urging residents to stay cautious.  Daily Record
